Bryant:  From 1964 to 1979 use the first two numbers of the serial number followed by a date code

1964 = R
1965 = S
1966 = T
1967 = U
1968 = V

Example: 27Rxxxxxx = 27th week of 1964

After Bryant became Bryant, Day-Night, Payne the system changed. In the new systm the first and second digits of the serial number are the week and the last two are the year (Applies to all BDP).

Example: 2799xxxxxx = 27th week of 1999.

———————————————————————————

Buderus

Buderus serial numbers for boilers and tanks each consist of 18- 27 digits with clear, consistent patterns divided by dashes. The format for the serial number depends on the product manufacture date.

1. The first format of a Buderus serial number has four series of numbers separated by dashes and looks like this:

63036333-00-7080-3241

The first sequence of numbers is the product part number- this is an ST200 DHW Tank

The next series is the product version or series and consist of two digits- this was in the 00 series of boilers.

The third series of numbers is the Manufacture date- this tank was manufacutred on the 80th day of 2007, so the first digit signifies the year and the next three signify the day of the year – ex. 005, 065, 365

The last set is the manufacturing date Sequence (four or five digits)- code for the identifying the series of boilers made that day.

2. The second format of a Buderus serial number (may show an “)” in section A only). It is four series of numbers separated by dashes and looks like this:

253000-08065-00040-77470007254

The first sequence is the manufacturing location – the location code is 253000 for this boiler (there are many different locations)

The second sequence is the year and day of the year the product was manufactured – this boiler was manufactured on the 65th day of 2008.

The third series is the Sequence count- this product was the 40th produced on that day.

The final section is the product part number- this boiler is the G125BE/21.

Please Note: Each of the sections are crucial to make a unique serial number. If only part of the serial number is provided there is the probability that it will be a duplicate.

———————————————————————————
Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Day & Night: Recently (last 20 years or so) the first four numbers in the serial number represent the week and year. Previously, it was a series of letters and single digits as explained below.

Through 1969, the first digit of the serial number indicates the year of manufacture. Example: 3xxxxxx = 1963, 4xxxxxx = 1964, etc.

1970 and later, a letter followed by a number indicates the month and year of manufacture. Example: A1 = January 1971, B1 = February 1971, C4 = March 1974 etc.

A = Jan
B = Feb
C = Mar    D = Apr
E = May
F = Jun     G = Jul
H = Aug
J = Sep    K = Oct
L = Nov
M = Dec
———————————————————————————-
Chrysler Air Temp:  Age is shown by the first digit of the serial number and corresponds to the last number of the year of manufacturer. Example 0C893745 = 1970. 1 = 1971, 2 = 1972, etc. Use common sense and visual observation to distinguish decades from one another.

———————————————————————————-

Climatrol:  Unknown

————————————————————————–

Climate Master:  Serial number indicates age from 1972 on

————————————————————————–

Coleman:  Acquired by York in 1996. For 1996 and later, see York.

April 1992 – 1996: 1st two numbers are year, then month, then series.

Prior to April 1992: 1st two numbers are month, then year, then series.

————————————————————————–

Comfortmaker (International Comfort): A letter followed by a 9-digit number. The second and third letter represent the year, the fourth and fifth numbers represent the week. There may be a date stamp to the right of the serial number.

Example: Serial Number: R883512345    Date of Mfg:  09/88

————————————————————————–

Day-Night: (Prior to BDP in 1979) Age coded into the serial number. First letter is the month followed by the second letter which is the year. A = 1970, B = 1971, Etc. Example: AAxxxxxx = January 1970, BExxxxxx = May 1971.

————————————————————————–

Ducane: uses two different formats on serial numbers.  All of our serial numbers are ten characters.  The most common format is all ten characters are numeric.  In this format the last 4 numbers indicate the year and the week of the year.  An example is your serial number 4140720320 where the 03 is 2003 and the 20 is the 20th week of the year (2002).  The more recent format is ten character and the format is the first 4 characters are numeric, the fifth character is alpha, and the last 5 characters are numeric.  The year code is determined from the 3rd and 4th characters that would be the last 2 digits of the calendar year (93=1993 and 06=2006). The fifth character which is alpha represents the month with A=January and M=December and but we do not use the letter I.  This is an example of second serial number format, 4603M12345, the 03 is 2003 and the M is December.

———————————————————————————

Paloma Tankless: 1st four digits represent the month and year.

Example: 10.07 = October 2007

———————————————————————————

Peerless

Prior to 1984 there was not a date code included as part of the serial number. Starting in 1984, there was a four digit date code following the serial number that was month and year. Example – JO-12345-1084, this unit was built in October of 1984. Starting in the year 2000, same idea only it was a six digit date code following the serial number that is year and month. Example – 1234567-200105, this would have been build in May of 2001. Anything without the addition to the serial number would have been made before 1984 and would require contact with the factory.

Rheem/Ruud: Before 1974 the first 2 digits indicated the year and the next digit the month. Example: 732xxx = February 1973.

Since then, the age is coded into the last four digits of the serial number by week and year. Therefore xxxx2302 = 23rd week of 2002.

———————————————————————————–

Rinnai:  The manufacturing date code is the first four digits of the serial number, written as YYMM, and is located at the bottom of the rating plate.
———————————————————————————

Tappan (Old): Age is the last 3 characters (digits and letter) of the serial number for the year and month of manufacturer.

Example: xxxxx85C = March 1985. (I not used)

Tappan (New): Since 1988 – The first 3 places are the model and series. The next 4 are the year and month and the next five are the production code

Example XXX0110XXXXX = October 2001

———————————————————————————

Tempstar (Two versions heard)

1. A letter followed by a 9-digit number. The second and third letter represent the year, the fourth and fifth numbers represent the week. There may be a date stamp to the right of the serial number.

Sample

Serial Number: R883512345    Date of Mfg:  09/88

2. Letter month (except I) followed by a two-digit year

————————————————————————–

Trane: Keeps switching the code.  Beginning in 1971, age is a number followed by a letter in the serial number. Example: 1C-xxxx = March 1971, etc..

1980, 1981, 1982  the year is a letter in the 7th place. O = 80, T = 81, U = 82

Beginning 1983 a letter was used in the first position to designate the year followed by the week. W = 83, X = 84, Y = 85, S = 86, B = 87, C = 88, D = 89, E = 90, F = 91, G = 92, H = 93, J = 94, K = 95, L = 96, M = 97, N = 98, P = 99, R = 00, Z = 01.     Example: B50632891 = Dec 87
(Beginning around 1987 the date of manufacturer is stamped on the ID plate most of the time.)

Beginning in 2002 the first digit of the serial number is the year followed by the week.

Example: 7165RHAIG equals the 16th week of 2007.
(Date of manufacture is on the data plate most of the time, but not always)

Current: First two digits are the year followed by the week.
Example 10023TTE1G denotes January 2010. The month and year of manufacture is also printed on the label.

——————————————————————————-

Westinghouse: Since 2002 – See Tappan (New)

——————————————————————————-

Whirlpool: Begins in 1970. The letter indicates the decade followed by the week. G = 1970’s, H=1980’s, J=1990’s, K=2000’s Example: H416XXXXX = 16th week of 1984

——————————————————————————-

Williams Comfort Products: Always check the Williams obsolescence chart first (Downloadable from the TIJ library) to see whether parts are even available.

Since 2000 – The first four digits of the serial number are the week followed by the year.

Example 3501XXXX is the 35th week of 2001 or September 2001

For any Williams product with a serial number beginning with a letter that is not on the obsolescence chart, call the manufacturer at 888-444-1212 and ask to speak to Rosemary.
