Vapor Barrier and Crawlspace Inspection

A crawl space is a shallow an uninhabitable area usually between the soil and the first floor of the home.  They generally have a minimum entrance space of 18 inches by 24 inches wide, but if the HVAC system is located in the crawlspace it will need a minimum of 30 inches by 30 inches.  It is very important to have proper ventilation in the crawlspace and is recommended that for every 150 square feet of floor space you have a one square foot opening for ventilation.

We recommend all dirt crawlspaces have a plastic vapor barrier installed to keep moisture down.  Crawlspaces should be looked at closely for wood rot and termite infestation as it is very common to have moisture or water in your crawlspace.
